Carrot Curiosity .....

Early in the Spring when I started preparing the garden the little girls showed some interest and asked some questions and even helped a bit.   One of the questions, What are we planting?  I named off several things when Carley said, "Mom, what about carrots?"  I'm sure this was triggered by our adventure to find Peter Rabbit in Mr. McGregor's garden cause the girl doesn't really eat carrots!  Poor child just didn't realize that her mother is no Mr. McGregor or Farmer Brown!   But I'm willing to give anything a try at least once!  I even have to admit once we planted them I too was a bit intrigued and curios!  I did draw the line when Carley suggested potatoes though.

I then asked Macey what she would like to plant and well she said PUMPKIN which we did!  Later when Craig was over jumping on the trampoline with the girls he told me not to expect too much from our pumpkin patch this year but that if we leave the vines next year I would have pumpkins.  This was backed up by a cute story about his mother's first year growing pumpkins...  It went something like..... her vines only produced one small pumpkin and when she went on vacation Craig's uncle bought a big pumpkin and placed it in her pumpkin patch.  His mother was so excited and talked about it for a few days when they finally told her the truth...  (Me...I probably would have never told her the truth).

All summer long I have harassed him about Macey's pumpkin vines which has produced 3 pumpkins that are currently still growing!  However the bugs have been such a challenge this year and I'm a bit worried that they are going to kill the pumpkin vines just as they have killed my squash and zuchinni!!   :-(

Here are some pictures of  settling our curiosity a bit by pulling a few carrots....

Carley

My garden is raised and those carrots where in the ground real good....
so she had to stand on the edge in order to pull them up.
Good thing Aunt Glenda was there cause once she yanked she almost lost her balance!
But she was got impressed with her carrot!
When Carley was done Macey said..... "My Turn"
So we placed her on the ledge of the garden and Aunt Glenda showed her where to pull.
Macey

She tried but ended up pulling off the stem a bit.
So Aunt Glenda reached down with her and helped her pull.....
And well we were not to sure about this carrot.
